God is Everywhere

Once upon a time there was a family of birds that lived in a tree by a park. There was a Dada, a Mama Bird, and the little birds: Duff, Puff, Gruff, Ruff & Tuff, and Fluff.

It was the time of year when families go on special trips. So Dada Bird and Mama Bird told the little birds that they were going hiking. The little birds were very excited and began packing their hiking gear. Puff got out the backpacks while Duff and Gruff got out their boots. Mama Bird packed a picnic basket with all kinds of hiking food like trail mix and sandwiches. Dada Bird made sure to pack the flashlights and water. He told the little birds, “You must always remember to drink enough water and to carry a flashlight with you at all times when you are hiking. If you get lost without either of these things you could end up in some big trouble.”

On the way into the deep woods, Gruff started thinking about what it would be like if he got lost. He asked Dada Bird, “What should I do if I get lost?”

Dada replied, “First, remember that God is with you. He will never leave you and He will help you when you pray to him.”

“But if God is with me, won’t you be in danger?”asked Tuff.

“Oh no,” said Dada Bird, “God is everywhere, all the time. He is always with you and with mom and dad at the same time. Isn’t that great?”

Tuff was comforted to know that God is everywhere in the world watching over everyone all at once. After the bird family hiked through the woods all day, Dada Bird began to set up camp. Mama bird got dinner ready with Puff and the little birds rolled out their sleeping bags and collected some wood for a bonfire.

After dinner, Tuff noticed that they might need some more sticks to keep the fire going. He asked Dada Bird if he and Ruff could collect some in the woods. Dada said they could go as long as they came back quickly because it was getting dark. So, off they went into the woods to find some sticks and logs on the forest floor. They walked and walked, and found a stick here and some twigs there. They turned right, walked for awhile, turned left and then right again. After some time had passed their wings were full of sticks and it was time to head back to camp. The only problem was they had no idea of how to get there. Tuff thought it would be a great idea to look for a path, but it was too hard to see anything on the forest floor. He asked Ruff for his flashlight, but Ruff just looked at him in dismay. Both of them had forgotten their flashlights. Without having any idea of what to do, they put down their sticks and curled up with one another near a tree, scared and confused.

Tuff thought for a moment and said “Ruff, do you think there are wolves out here?”

But before Ruff could reply they both heard howling. “Oh no,” Ruff exclaimed. “We’ve got to do something!”

Tuff remembered what Dada Bird had told him and said, “Ruff, Dada Bird said that God is with us all the time. So He must be with us now. He is also powerful enough to help us, so we should pray.”

Then they prayed to God for help and trusted Him to do something to save them. A few moments later they heard a strange sound. It was a small whimper. Ruff said, “Hello” Who is there?”

A small voice barely replied, “Yes, hello.”

Ruff walked around to the other side of the tree and found a little mole. What is your name? he asked.

“My name is Muchacho and I’m a mole. I’m also terribly lost.“ he said with a sigh.

Ruff smiled, “Hi Muchacho, my name is Ruff and this is my brother, Tuff. We are lost too, but don’t worry, God is with us. He is everywhere, all the time. So He is with us now. We just prayed that He would help us. I think we will be okay.”

It was difficult for Muchacho to see Ruff and Tuff in the dark so he asked them if it would be okay to shine his flashlight on them to see what they looked like.

“Sure,” Ruff replied.

When Muchacho turned on his flashlight, Tuff exclaimed, “Wait a minute! A flashlight! You have a flashlight?”

Tuff asked to use the flashlight and quickly shined it on the ground. It only took a few moments until he found the path.

“This way!” he exclaimed. The two birds and Muchacho followed the trail through the woods until they saw the flickering light of the bonfire at the little birds’ camp. “Look,” he said, “that’s our campfire.”

When the little birds saw Ruff & Tuff they were very relieved. “We looked everywhere for you,” Mama Bird exclaimed as she wrapped her wings around them.

After many hugs and kisses Tuff introduced them to Muchacho. “Well, nice to meet you,” said Dada Bird and may I ask why you are out here all alone?”

“I’m lost,” Muchacho replied, “and I’m worried about my  parents. They must be looking all over for me.”

“I’m sure they are Muchacho, but remember that just as God is with you, He is with them too. Why don’t you camp with us tonight and we can help you find your parents in the morning? Where do you live?” asked Dada.

“I live in a hole in the ground,” Muchacho replied.

“That could be anywhere,” said Dada Bird. “Is there anything special near where you live?”

“Well, there’s a tree near our hole, and a park with a sandbox, swing set, and a slide,” replied Muchacho.

Dada looked up with excitement. “That sounds like the park near our nest. Let’s get some sleep and we can get up early to take you there.” Muchacho smiled and was able to go to sleep with peace in his heart knowing that God was with him and with his parents as well.

As soon as the sun came up the next day, the little birds packed up their camp and flew home. Dada bird carried Muchacho on his back and flew through the woods as fast as they could. When they reached the park Muchacho pointed towards a tree and yelled, “That’s it! That’s it! That’s my home!”

As soon as Dada Bird put him down, Muchacho’s parents popped out of a hole in the ground near the tree and ran towards their son. The gave him a great big hug and cried with tears of joy because their beloved son was lost and now is found. Muchacho introduced his parents to the little birds and they all prayed together thanking God for saving them and for being with all of them at the same time.
